EMPHASIS ON TECHNIQUE
You must remember that technique is not the determining factor in a fight. Who
applies the technique and who receives the technique are the primary
determinants. Ruthless determination will overshadow techniques or choice of
weapon “every” time. No, I can't state that as an absolute.
The will to win is more important than the skill to win. Mental attitude is crucial!
Determination is the only thing that will get you off the ground after being
stabbed, shot, or punched. No matter what techniques you end up
using(grappling ,punching, stabbing, or whatever)Your Fighting objective is to put
the opponent physically down on the ground. After you have accomplished this
goal, be certain he stays down. The time frame of the attack is usually very shortit
is often over in a matter of seconds. Keep this in mind when developing
offensive and defensive techniques and through all aspects of your training.
One of the things related to the topic of practical self-defense that has changed
in the last 40 years ( or 34 years since the book was originally published )
is that there are a lot more women participating in every form of practical selfdefense
( and also every form of martial arts ), including grappling, boxing,
professional “mixed martial art” fighters, etc. Unfortunately there are also many
more violent women in society today, including female bullies, some who choose
to use weapons, some who are skilled fighters, or at least fighters who are not
strangers to fighting. And there are a lot of females who have very little to no
experience with knowing how to fight and/or defend themselves...they usually
just have a big mouth, and a bad attitude, with pathetic fighting skills ( just like
a lot of males out in society )...Contrary to “back in the day” there are women who
can seriously hurt another woman in a fight and/or violent attack. ( and there
are some males that aren't immune from getting their ass kicked by a female
( and I don't mean a black eye, I mean sent to the hospital with serious injuries )
As soon as this book is published, I will be starting a program that will be
putting much more emphasis on women's self-defense / knife-defense
instruction, than on teaching males. But I will teach a select number of males.
